Campfire Ban Lifted

Campfire Ban Lifted in the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO)

The RDNO has issued the following News Release

The RDNO has lifted the campfire ban within the region as of Monday, September 10, 2018.

As a result of the precipitation and moist weather conditions over the last few days, the risk in fire fuels and wildfires has decreased immensely.  Residents are now able to have campfires in the area but are encouraged to use extreme caution and safety in all fire use.

Please note that this only relates to the allowance of campfires, chimneys, outdoor stoves and other portable apparatus that is not CSA or ULC approved.  As per the fire regulation set by the Kamloops Fire Centre, category 2 and 3 fires are still prohibited, along with the use of fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels, exploding targets and tiki torches or similar.

September 7, 2018

The Kamloops Fire Centre has given notice to rescind the campfire ban in the central zone as of 12 noon September 7th 2018.

This notice is only for campfires.

Category 2 and 3 fire are still prohibited, along with the use of firework, sky lanterns, burn barrels, exploding targets etc, and Tiki torches or similar.

There is an expected precipitation event this weekend, however the RDNO feels that the current conditions and fuels are still vulnerable to wildfire within the RDNO boundaries.

Therefore the RDNO will NOT be rescinding the campfire ban until a further review is undertaken on Monday 10th Sept.2018.

Previous Notice:

Effective at noon Thursday July 26, 2018 a Campfire Ban is in place in the Kamloops Fire Centre.

The Village of Lumby is located within the Kamloops Fire Center.

The BC Wildfire Service is dealing with several large fires in the Kamloops Fire Centre as a result
of lightning storms that moved through the Okanagan last week. Hot and dry conditions are
expected to continue. The fire danger ratings in the Kamloops Fire Centre are now generally
“moderate” or “high”, but these ratings will likely increase this week.
