Lumby Recieves $1,711,938 from Federal Gas Tax Funds

Village of Lumby receives federal Gas Tax Fund contribution for Lumby’s Sustainable Water Plan – Stage 1 Revitalization Works

The Village of Lumby has been awarded $1,711,938 for its project “Sustainable Water Plan – Stage 1 Revitalization Works” funded through the Federal Governments Gas Tax Strategic Priorities Fund.

The Village of Lumby has been hit hard with job losses as a result of the economic downturn and due to a general slowdown in the forest industry.  Lumby was negatively affected by these job losses which have impacted families, loggers, truckers, suppliers, and service industry providers.  Since that time, we have worked with our consultants, residents and the local business community to determine how we can attract new industry to Lumby.  Through public consultation and economic development workshops, priorities were identified to attract new industry and address aging and undersized infrastructure.  This would encourage new businesses to locate their operations to Lumby.  This project will renew aging and undersized water infrastructure in our downtown core as well as the southern component of industrial park lands.

The benefits to Lumby are significant. Increased fire flows, right-sized water lines, and significant improvements to the integrity of the water utility. Project details include:

  • 1,830 m of 300 mm watermain to be replaced;
  • Well head protection improvements;
  • Intrusion alarms and communication upgrades at all facilities;
  • Leblanc Street pressure zone change;
  • Backup generator for the lower reservoir.
